Nature Documentary in the Anthropocene (2020)

Do you know we are living in the Anthropocene? What is it? What’s its story? The Anthropocene Exploratory group addresses these questions. Started as reading group in Canterbury, the group has branched out to Margate with a film series on nature documentaries in the Anthropocene.

David Attenborough’s documentaries rule the anglophone imagination of nature. This is a weekly screening of documentaries that challenge the Attenborough view of nature as virgin or defiled. Each exploring what a ‘nature’ documentary made for the Anthropocene might look like.

Ten films will be screened over three months, accompanied with readings and discussion. At the end of the series the audience will collectively award one film with the prize for ‘Best Nature Documentary in the Anthropocene’.

This series is free to attend.
